Failure to follow these guidelines could delay or postpone your procedure. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A hospital staff member will escort you to the pre-op area when it is time for your surgery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A nurse will admit you and prepare you for your procedure. You will be asked to sign necessary forms. (A parent or guardian must sign for patients under age 18.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The anesthesiologist will visit with you and answer any questions you have regarding your planned anesthesia. Also, your surgeon will review your planned surgery and answer any questions you have.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"surgical-patient-resources\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Surgical patient resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"eras-program\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ERAS Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ERAS stands for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. The ERAS program is a multimodal care pathway designed to accelerate recovery. In addition to returning patients to their normal health quickly, ERAS programs can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce the amount of pain experienced post-operatively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help prevent surgical-site infections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce the risk for complications.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ERAS program is available to patients undergoing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hysterectomy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hip or knee replacement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Colorectal surgery<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patients will receive education from the surgeon and the pre-admission clinic on the ERAS program and the specific pathway for their surgery. These instructions will include information on nourishment before and after surgery, early mobility and pain management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"pre-operative-joint-replacement-class\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pre-operative joint replacement class<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joint replacement surgery pre-operative class prepares patients for total hip, knee or shoulder surgery.
