Clinic &#8211; University of Colorado Hospital provides patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) education about the different choices they have for dialysis.<\/p>\n<p>Home therapies include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hemodialysis. <\/strong>Blood is removed from the body and passed through a filter to clean the blood.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peritoneal dialysis. <\/strong>Fluid is instilled into the abdominal cavity and the body\u2019s own blood vessels are used as the \u201cfilter\u201d to clean the blood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each of these therapies provides more continuous therapy compared to in-center hemodialysis which, for many patients, results in an improved sense of well-being. Dialysis at home also provides for greater flexibility in one\u2019s daily schedule and avoids the need for travel to a dialysis center.
