Definiciones

What is Telehealth?

A medical forensic telehealth program originally launched in 2019 to build stronger responses to sexual assault and violence in rural communities.

How does Telehealth work?

Through secure two-way video technology, experienced forensic nurses provide real-time support to telehealth site nurses during examinations conducted at partner hospitals. This telehealth model allows on-site nurses to receive live clinical guidance and mentoring during patient care, improving quality, consistency, and confidence.

Where is Telehealth being offered?

Since 2021, telehealth-supported exam volume has increased from five exams to more than 150 annually, and the initiative currently supports 18 telehealth sites with interest growing across the state. SARP is designed to meet forensic programs where they are and elevate patient experience, operating within each community’s unique set of circumstances. Site dynamics range from small, rural communities with only one or two SANEs, sites located in the mountainous regions, to sites in more urban settings that are just getting off the ground. Feedback from site nurses and patients consistently demonstrates the value of this approach: nurses report feeling more supported and more confident, while patients report feeling more cared for and reassured during the examination process. Additionally, program staff have developed relationships and networking with coordinators and have heard directly that their programs would fail to function without the support provided by SARP.
