Total Hip Arthroplasty and Total Knee Arthroplasty: Patient-reported, Outcome-based Performance Measure (THA/TKA PRO-PM)
Learn about how you, as a patient, can help improve the quality of total hip and total knee arthroplasty procedures at UCHealth and across the U.S.
We are committed to making your hip and knee arthroplasty procedures very safe and the best quality. Your care team will ask you to fill out surveys about your pain and how well you can move (mobility). Answering these surveys will help with decision-making and help your team work together to plan your care during your recovery.
Our hospital uses the THA/TKA PRO-PM to measure how much our patient’s say their pain has improved and how well they can move (mobility) before and after their elective hip or knee procedure.

Most patients have a hip or knee procedure to decrease their symptoms and improve their quality of life. You are the only person that can share information about your health. This information is very important to your care team. By telling them about your pain, stiffness and mobility levels before and after your procedure, you give them information they can use to help plan the best care for you.
Your voice and perspective matter
How can I help to improve the quality of total hip and total knee arthoplasty procedures?
You are the only person that can give important input about your day-to-day pain and mobility to your doctor and care team.
When you fill out a patient-reported outcome survey, you share information about your symptom levels, both before and after your procedure, with your doctor and care team.
Your responses can help you and your doctor make the best possible decisions about your care. Your responses will be used to rate the quality of care at UCHealth compared to other hospitals. It will also help them improve their quality of care. It will also help patients like you see and compare hospital results before getting a total hip or total knee arthroplasty procedure
What do the surveys ask about?
The survey asks you to answer 6 or 7 questions about your hip or knee pain levels and mobility (how well you can move).
You will also be asked about any other pain you have (such as back pain and other lower-limb joint pain), if you use narcotics, your health literacy and your mental health.
How long will it take to fill out?
The survey is made to be user-friendly and takes about 10 minutes to fill out.
When will I fill out the surveys?
The first survey must be filled out up to 90 days before (or on the date) of your procedure. Then, the survey will be filled out again 300 to 425 days after your procedure. We strongly encourage you to fill out these surveys before and after your procedure so we can find out about how much you have improved.
How will my answers be used?
Your care team will use your survey answers to improve the care they give you. Your answers will also be used to measure and publicly report information about how well patients at your hospital improve after a total hip or total knee arthroplasty procedure. This can help other patients decide where to go for their care.
How will i get and fill out the surveys?
Your hospital will let you know electronically (e.g., send you an email, text, etc.) with a link to fill out the surveys.
