Dr. Leininger is a trauma surgeon at Memorial Hospital who refined his skills in general and trauma surgery in the war zone of Iraq.
A decorated Air Force veteran, Leininger is a 1998 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery under Dr. H. Harlan Stone at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz. and completed a fellowship in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Cincinnati in 2008. He served in the Air Force from 2003 to 2007 and deployed twice as an Air Force trauma surgeon in Iraq.

Dr. Leininger has been interested in trauma surgery and surgical critical care since medical school, where he received the Marion DeWeese Award from the division of general surgery and the vascular surgery divisional award for excellence. As a medical student he was one of only four students in his class inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society in his junior year. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, Dr. Leininger trained under several of this country’s preeminent trauma and critical care surgeons. Dr Leininger was recruited to the medical staff of Memorial Hospital in 2008 in order to help found the first surgical critical care program in southern Colorado. He is a specialist in the field of acute care surgery, which combines expertise in the disciplines of critical care, trauma surgery and emergency general surgery. He presently serves as the director of the surgical critical care service, the chief of Memorial’s general surgery section, and the leader of his medical practice group. In his free time, Dr. Leininger enjoys scuba diving, hiking, skiing, and spending time with his wife, two children and his german shepherd.
