Working directly with Dr. Atiyeh I have come to realize that our cancer patients require more than just surgery, they need compassionate providers that can anticipate their needs, guide them through the process of treatment for their cancer, and then continue to follow them as cancer survivors. We understand that diagnosis of cancer can be emotionally catastrophic and work with patients and their social support persons through the entire process.

I have come to love my varied responsibilities as Dr. Atiyeh’s right hand from conducting initial intake visits, rounding on our hospitalized patients, providing detailed surgical counseling, seeing patients in the post-operative period, and managing their cancer surveillance at later visits. I truly enjoy educating and helping patients understand every aspect of their medical care and being a resource for them and their families. My formative years as a physician assistant were spent in family medicine, urgent care, and emergency medicine. These specialties provided me with experience caring for patients across a wide range of ages and medical needs. In 2019 I returned from a deployment to Afghanistan with the National Guard and I was looking for a change and accepted this position in the head and neck surgery department. I worked exclusively under the guidance and training of Dr. Atiyeh, learning the details and nuances of this surgical subspecialty. She trusts me to be an extension of herself when she cannot be present with patients.
